The Lucky Tortoise

An old colleague reunion meant a stroll through the city followed by an essential grub and gossip. After some research on Early Table, we chose to visit The Lucky Tortoise on Aungier Street, Dublin 2. Easily accessible by all public transport routes and located near a large car park in city center, paired with a scrumptious menu, it was a no brainer for us to make a booking. A great Dublin based restaurant with modern dim sum served fresh everyday!

Location

Located within a 5 minute walk from Grafton street, meant we could stroll through the shops before heading for our evening meal. The restaurant was small and cosy with a fresh, modern décor. There was one waiter serving all tables who was friendly and explained the menu in great detail. He was very courteous and seated us just inside the door at the window where we had full view of the busy street outside. There was a constant flow of people into the restaurant for the duration of our meal with a very relaxing atmosphere.

Dinner

We decided to each go for the all in menu which was €28 per person. With so many delicious options we both wanted to taste, the waiter recommended we opt for this option as it allowed us to sample their whole menu. Despite the portion sizes being a lot smaller than your typical Irish style restaurant meal, overall we were full and content at the end of our meal. There were a number of dishes within the all in menu which started with the miso soup. This soup is a staple of the traditional Japanese diet and is a common side dish for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This particular miso soup was served with thinly sliced scallions and wakame seaweed. This was a tasty and light teaser to start our meal. Next, we were served banchan, jasmine rice, okonomiyaki and chive and scallion pajeon. The okonomiyaki is a popular pan-fried dish that consists of batter and cabbage. This was topped with scallions, a cheese sauce and some fried onion. The pajeon was a savory pancake again filled with scallions. As a scallion lover, the chive & scallion pajeon and the okonomiyaki were my personal favourite dishes of the evening. Following this, we were next served a pancetta potstickers, pork sui mai and roast sweet potato and miso dumplings. Each dish was as tasty as the next, with the roast sweet potato and miso dumpling being the best dumplings I’ve tried to date. Finally, the last two dishes we were served were Sichuan Aubergine and sesame dumplings and a silken tofu. The portion sizes were perfect and each dish was presented exceptionally well with plenty of colour and variety across the menu. We were extremely happy with the all in menu option and would recommend to anyone looking to try some top quality Japanese food.

Early Table Saving

We saved a total €14 on our food bill by booking with Early Table. It was so easy to book and we most definitely would recommend the Lucky Tortoise for all Japanese food lovers. The 25% off meant we had a little more to spend in the shops and it was the perfect location for a meeting place.

Secret Insight Score

Overall 5 out of 5 for our food, experience and staff! Would recommend to add to your list for your next visit to Dublin.
