The Wild Duck

The Wild Duck is one of those places that's hard to ignore. Tucked into Sycamore Street in Temple Bar, it's a venue with a personality all of its own, somewhere that feels like a proper Dublin pub but with a lot more going on beneath the surface.

The interior is a lot to take in. Every surface is covered in something, horror movie posters, punk rock memorabilia, pop culture references, string lights, and banknotes stapled to the ceiling from visitors who've passed through from all over the world. It sounds chaotic, and it is, but it works.

The food is where The Wild Duck holds its own. The menu focuses on crowd favourites done properly, think loaded burgers, crispy chicken wings, and hearty sharing platters. Portions are generous, the quality is consistently praised, and it sits at a fair price point for the Temple Bar area. It's the kind of food that complements a great night out rather than playing second fiddle to it.

Live music runs most nights, anything from traditional Irish sessions to rock and cover bands, and there are screens up for sports. Being a stone's throw from the Olympia Theatre, it pulls in a good crowd before and after shows.

The staff are a big part of why people come back. They're friendly without being forced about it, the kind of bar where someone will actually chat to you rather than just take your order.

Outside there's a heated terrace, which in Dublin is never something to overlook.

It's a pub that does its own thing and doesn't apologise for it. Whether you're local or just passing through, it's worth the visit.
