Overview
Bayou brings the soul of New Orleans to MacCurtain Street in Cork city. Opened in 2024 by Josh and Kate Crawford, the kitchen draws on deep Louisiana roots to serve up the kind of food that warms you from the inside out. The menu is built around the classics: chicken and andouille gumbo, jambalaya, po'boys loaded with fried chicken or andouille, muffulettas on homemade focaccia, hush puppies, fried okra with house ranch, and beignets dusted in powdered sugar. Breakfast is just as serious, with American biscuits, thick ham, hot honey fried chicken and a watermelon salad that has no business being as good as it is. The space has the feel of a neighbourhood spot that has been there for decades with varnished floorboards, wood panelling, and a soundtrack that leans into jazz and Cajun rhythms. Ingredients come from Irish suppliers where possible, with meat from Bresnan's in Douglas and coffee from Stone Valley in Clonakilty. Counter service, no reservations, and no fuss.
